What Hobbits Teach Us About Wellness
You want to know what my MOST viral pin says?
โI am basically a Hobbit. I want a good garden, a pantry full of bread and cheese, daily teatime, to walk around barefoot, have second breakfast, and eat potatoes.โ
Clearly it's a near-universal desire to live like a Hobbit.
What is it about quaint little Hobbit culture we all love so much? (If Middle Earth-lore is not your thing, I promise you'll still like these practices ๐)
Second breakfast. Teatime. PO-TAY-TOES. I mean what is there NOT to love?
Here's what I think Hobbits have to tell us about pursuing wellness, and why we like them so much:
They prioritize slowness, community, & a relationship with nature. I think we all want a little more of this, deep down. Connection with people, the outdoors - I believe this need was factored into our human design and is part of our true fulfillment.
They ate wholesome food they grew or raised themselves. Not all of us are meant to be farmers and gardeners and that's okay, but the principles here can still apply - eating real, whole food that satisfies both our nutrient needs and our cravings! Eating seasonally and locally are such beautiful gifts when you can make it work!
They went barefoot outside. If you're not on the grounding train yet, it's magical. Yes there's science behind it (it can help lower inflammation, improve sleep, and protect from the crazy EMF exposure we currently have), but even if there wasn't - have you ever experienced your feet on a lush patch of grass? MAGIC, I tell you.
They weren't afraid to eat. It is much harder to over-eat when you're eating real foods, and while all of us might not need the list of six full meals found in Hobbiton, eating frequently can be a great metabolism boost (this is actually why my meal plans are structured with three meals and three snacks! So just think of it as an official Hobbit meal plan.) They also made sure to eat nourishing & comforting foods like potatoes, homemade bread, and cheese (all the things we've been tricked into thinking โaren't good") alongside their garden harvest.

โIf more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.โ JRR Tolkien
I could go on, surely - they weren't afraid of a little meat on their bones, they drank healing teas and used lots of herbs, they sat by the fire (free red light therapy, y'all) - there's so much to glean here!
I hope you have a very hobbit-like day today, with lots of fresh food, time outside, and good conversation.
