Health Care Sharing I LOVE

health care sharing ministries

A few months back that my precious middle son had an unexpected anaphylactic episode after a local bakery did not label their products correctly.

It was truly one of the scariest moments of my life.

We are fortunate that our son has healed from a lot of allergies and we are seeing improvement every time we test again, and so we have also not had many experiences like this, praise God!

What started as a small cough from him quickly turned into monitoring his rapid oxygen drop, full-body hives and swelling, skyrocketing blood pressure, dosing all of our allergy support as quickly as possible, and ultimately calling 911.

It's something I wouldn't wish on any momma's heart.

My boy was well provided for and protected, was stable very quickly, and only needed a few hours in the ER before safely heading back home, thank goodness.

But our medical care costs skyrocketed FAST, no matter how short the trip might have been.

An ambulance ride (with no medical intervention even!) and a mere 3 hours at the ER with one nebulizer treatment? Nearly $4500.

Is that not insane?!

Now mind you, I will care for my boy NO matter the cost. But goodness gracious it adds up quick.

What Does My Family Do Without Health Insurance?

Of all the stress and chaos and fear we all felt during my son's reaction, I am so thankful that not once did I have a worry about how we were going to pay for the medical care we needed, even as a family without health insurance.

Even as the bills came in, I didn't feel any worry.

Because my family and I are members of Samaritan Ministries, we were easily able to submit all the medical bills to Samaritan, and within weeks we had precious, individual fellow Christ-following members sending their monthly shares straight to our family.

Of all the fear and uncertainty that comes with being an allergy momma or even just a momma in general, I'm always SO thankful that the medical bill arena doesn't compete to steal my peace.

I so vividly remember all the long years of medical emergency after emergency, birthing children, and hospital visits stacking up and just feeling crushed under the weight of the financial burden.

And that, my friends, is why we don't use health insurance anymore.

Biblical health care sharing with Samaritan Ministries that helps alleviate our stress, connects us to other believers, and helps put the financial side on the back burner during a true medical emergency has been a beautiful fit for our family.

Samaritan Ministries also just launched an additional sharing option called REDEEM™ HealthShare Ministry that offers incredible new features and sharing programs.

(It's still the wonderful, affordable, biblically-based, community-focused mission we all know and love, now with exclusive add-ons to share for things like dental and vision expenses!)

Recounting this story is truly a difficulty as a momma (goodness, I've even deleted the picture I took of him that night to show how much his face had swelled!), but I share it in the hopes of a couple things:

1). I really really fully believe we will be on the other side of these allergies one day. And one day soon!

2). Finances are hard for us all, they just are. If I can help another family toward removing the stress of insurance costs by presenting a biblical option for health care to consider, I want to do that.

Happy Nourishing this week, my friend, and thanks for being here!
