Homemade Gummy Recipe Collection!

I LOVE homemade gummies. So much so in fact, that my now phased out meal plans had not one, not two, but SIX different homemade gummy recipes. Healthy homemade gummies are truly the perfect easy snack - they’re quick, simple, protein-rich, and nutrient-dense!

Since those meal plans have been discontinued (my Nourish Cookbook has a lot of re-formulated pieces from those meal plans but in an entirely new book!), those cherished gummy recipes have to go somewhere, so we can all continue enjoying them!

Fallon’s Table recipes & gelatin gummies have always fit together like PB&J (and I do have a strawberry jelly gummy recipe included here, so hang tight), so today we’ll cover how to make homemade gummies, why healthy homemade gummies are nutrient-rich and a great gut-health supportive option, and talk about several recipe variations (fruit gummies, electrolyte-rich gummies, and more) to make these such a fun kid snack!

Why We Love Homemade Gummies

Did you know that gelatin has been used for centuries to make pudding, jellos, and more? While our standard grocery packets are a bit different than what would have been used historically, we can still make these easy snacks fun, wholesome, and adapt to modern kitchens!

Gelatin gummy snacks take about ten minutes to assemble, can cool and set in the fridge quickly, and are a great make-ahead snack choice to prep for the week!

(Speaking of make-ahead…see my Make-Ahead Friendly Cookbook, Batch, here!

Homemade gummies are perfect for lunchboxes, no prep snacks, or easy additions to weekday lunches. They’re totally kid-friendly, have super simple ingredients, and you can customize the flavors in nearly endless ways!

They’re a great way to get beautiful nutrients into your little ones’ (or your…) daily diet!

Ingredients You’ll Need for Homemade Gummies

This is a short list with lots of variations, but the key components for gut-supportive and nutrient-dense homemade gummy snacks are:

Organic, Grass-Fed Gelatin

This is the key component for homemade fruit snacks and gummies! Organic, grass-fed gelatin (not collagen!) is what gives gummies that jello-like consistency. Not to mention, gelatin nourishes and supports our joints, skin health, and gut health with it’s incredible amino acid profile!

Gelatin has about 12g of protein per serving, and also contains glycine, which is super beneficial for sleep quality, glutathione production, skin elasticity, and more!

My favorite brand choices are here and here! (there are a lot of other good choices, too!)

Fruit Juice or Whole Fruit

Depending on your prep time available, either of these works fantastically well. Organic fruit juice is perfect if you need prep to be ultra-fast, and whole fruit can easily be blended or boiled down from frozen if need be!

Natural Sweetener

I prefer sweeteners like pure maple syrup (which is incredibly nutrient-rich!), raw honey, or even coconut sugar for my homemade gummies, to keep the mineral content as high as possible!

Optional Add-Ins

This is a great recipe to sneak in trace mineral drops, herbal supplements, and extra nutrition boosts!

Directions for Making Gummies

For non-frozen fruit recipes:

Add half the liquid to a medium-sized saucepan, without heat on. Sprinkle gelatin in a thin, evenly distributed layer on top and let sit for a minute to bloom. Turn stove on medium heat and slowly stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Turn off heat and stir in remaining ingredients.

Pour into candy molds or a parchment paper-lined baking dish and allow to set in fridge for 1-2 hours.

For frozen fruit gummies:

Heat the fruit on the stove until simmering and soft. Carefully combine all ingredients in a full-sized blender and blend until smooth. Pour into molds or a parchment paper-lined baking dish and allow to set in fridge.

Tips for Making Homemade Gummies

  1. If you want more of a jello consistency, reduce the gelatin by 1-2 tablespoons.

  2. Do not let your liquid boil - you just want it warm!

  3. Make these ahead of time to have quick snacks for the week! (If you want a FULL prep-ahead meal and recipe guide for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners - grab my Batch Cookbook!)

  4. Use a good grass-fed gelatin for the best nutrient-density!

  5. Larger molds are easier to work with than molds with tiny shapes (I don’t often use molds and just stick to containers!).

  6. Store these in the fridge for up to a few days!

Frequently Asked Questions for Gummy-Making!

Can homemade gummies be frozen?

They certainly can! I do prefer freshly made gummies, as freezing can sometimes cause a bit of separation and a texture change.

How long do homemade gummies last?

Homemade gummy snacks will keep for 3-5 days in the fridge, in an air-tight container.

Can you use silicone molds?

Silicone molds are SO fun for gummies! I prefer molds with larger shapes, as the tiny shapes can be super difficult to work with.

Why didn’t my gummies set?

If your gummies didn’t set, it’s likely that they did not get quite warm enough. You want your heat to not be boiling, just warm, but definitely warm! The enzymes in some fresh fruits and juices (pineapple in particular) can also pose a problem - so a bottled option will work best.

Why do my gummies taste beefy?

This is also often a case of not heating and stirring enough! It could also be the specific gelatin used.
